Image noise can be caused by a variety of factors including, high speed film grain, adverse lighting conditions, scanner/digital camera CCD noise, or image enlargement. Digital GEM Plug-In allows users to isolate and manage noise/grain in both highlight and shadow areas without sacrificing image detail. The 'Clarity' slider in the Digital GEM Plug-In dialog box provides an easy way to produce additional artistic effects. Users can achieve soft focus effects similar to those used in professional portrait studios by moving the slider to the left, the 'soften' side.
